Learn to sail where sailing actually matters
SE

Sail the Stockholm Archipelago — with a professional skipper, hands-on learning, or pure relaxation aboard Operah

Spend six unforgettable days and nights sailing the Stockholm Archipelago aboard Operah, Sailstar’s 50-foot Beneteau — a spacious, well-equipped yacht designed for comfort and serious sailing alike.

This is a sailing experience shaped around you. Some guests come to actively learn the fundamentals of sailing and seamanship. Others prefer to relax, enjoy the scenery, and take the helm when it feels right. Most choose a mix of both.

We depart from Viggbyholm, just north of Stockholm, and head straight into one of the world’s most unique cruising grounds: over 30,000 islands, narrow sounds, smooth granite shores, and sheltered natural harbors. Our route weaves between quiet anchorages, classic wooden island villages, and legendary sailing destinations such as Sandhamn, Möja, Utö, and Finnhamn.

Life on board is unhurried and social. There’s time to sail, talk, read, swim, explore ashore — and simply enjoy being at sea.

Sail, learn, and navigate — at your own pace

Throughout the week you sail with your own professional skipper and instructor. You’re invited to steer, trim sails, navigate, and understand how sailing really works in close coastal waters — always at a pace that suits the group and the conditions.

All Sailstar skippers are highly qualified and deeply experienced in Scandinavian archipelago sailing. More importantly, they know these waters intimately — the hidden coves, the quiet anchorages, and the places you won’t find in guidebooks.

No previous sailing experience is required. Each week is adapted to the group’s interests, skill level, and the weather.

This is not tropical sailing.
This is seamanship.

A typical week might look like this

Day 1
Welcome aboard in Viggbyholm. Safety briefing, introductions, and an afternoon sail into the archipelago.

Days 2–5
Sailing between islands, anchoring in natural harbors, swimming from smooth granite rocks, visiting island restaurants, and refining your sailing skills along the way.

Day 6
A relaxed sail back toward the mainland, finishing with a final lunch under sail.

You stay on board all week in your own private cabin. The yacht offers multiple bathrooms with showers, generous common areas, and plenty of space both above and below deck.

Evenings are flexible — some nights we cook together on board, other nights we dine ashore at one of the archipelago’s classic island taverns.

This is a rare chance to experience Northern European sailing the way locals do — close to nature, technically engaging, and deeply memorable.

  • You like traveling in small groups and sharing experiences with others on board

  • You’re comfortable with a flexible schedule shaped by weather, wind, and sea conditions

  • You’re looking for a journey that feels personal, social, and meaningful

You don’t need to…

  • You prefer a fixed itinerary with guaranteed destinations and times

  • You want warm water, tropical weather, and swimming every day

  • You’re uncomfortable sharing a yacht and daily life with others

  • You’re mainly interested in nightlife, shopping, or resort-style travel

In short

If you’re drawn to seamanship, scenery, and substance — and want to experience sailing the way it’s done in Northern Europe — this week in the Stockholm Archipelago will likely suit you very well.

This is not about ticking boxes.

About Sailstar

Company Presentation — Sailstar

About Sailstar

Sailstar is one of Sweden's most established sailing schools for adults — founded and run by Tomas Sandström, sailor, instructor and author of several of the country's most widely used sailing books.
Since its inception in 2010, Sailstar has trained over 4,800 sailors in everything from beginner courses to advanced racing and long-distance sailing.

The business starts at Viggbyholm in Täby, north of Stockholm, and is complemented by international courses in Greece.
The philosophy is simple — to teach sailing in a safe, educational and inspiring way where practice, experience and knowledge go hand in hand.

History

Sailstar was founded with the vision to create a sailing school that took adult learning seriously.
Unlike many traditional sailing schools, Sailstar initially built its courses on small groups, well-trained instructors and modern boats.

The 2010s saw the addition of big boat courses at Operah, racing activities with Aira 22 boats, and international sailing weeks in Croatia.
In 2025, the business expanded to Greece as well, with a sailing base in the Olympic Marina, Lavrion.

Today

Today Sailstar offers a complete training program for both beginners and experienced sailors.
The company has a unique combination of practical instruction in modern boats and well-structured training materials — including the course book Basics of Sailing and several further developed theory modules online.

The instructors are experienced sailors with a solid background in racing, long-distance sailing and training.
Course operations are conducted with modern day sailors (Aira 22), dinghies, NF boats and large sailboats (Jeanneau Sun Odyssey 440 “Agrippa” and Beneteau 50 “Operah”).

Sailstar stands for pedagogy, safety and the joy of sailing .

We believe in hands-on training in real conditions, small groups, and clear goals -- from first stroke of cruise to advanced navigation.
